About
The Hunter

It’s time we put the Hunter first, because it’s the Hunter’s time. The Hunter is a diverse electorate from Cessnock to Cameron Park to Cooranbong. The historic towns of Singleton, Muswellbrook and Morisset colliding with new or refreshed suburbs like Huntlee, Billy’s Lookout and Cameron Grove.

Residents of Lake Macquarie, Upper Hunter & Lower Hunter enjoy a relaxed lifestyle and the convenience of proximity to Newcastle and Sydney. The electorate’s localities range from dense urbanised areas in the north and east to rural areas in the south and west, with a string of interconnected townships and suburbs bordering the lake and along the Hunter expressway.

Just a 60 – 90 minute drive north of Sydney for a large swathe of the electorate, the region has a rich history. Named after the second Governor of New South Wales, John Hunter, the first Member for Hunter was former Prime Minister Sir Edmund Barton. At the time of the last Federal Election in 2019, there were 121,560 electors enrolled to vote in an area of approximately 10,640 sq km.

Our Party believes in all industries. Industries can coexist. We have an extraordinary Agricultural Industry. We have the best tourism area in Australia and the highest quality coal exports in the world right here in the Hunter.

With more agriculture jobs, mining, manufacturing, tourism, renewable and small business jobs our area will go from strength to strength. That vision will come to fruition by listening to locals who know what needs to happen on the ground in the Hunter to make it a better place to live, work and raise a family.

Hunter is an ideal place to raise a family, holiday, retire or invest and do business! I wouldn’t live anywhere else! I hope you find this website useful.

If there is anything I can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to contact my Campaign Office.

Kind regards,

James Thomson,
Nationals Candidate for Hunter
